We took the pressure and we threw it away when we celebrated our teams and upcoming Interschools win at our annual Big Brag and Prefect hall. The teams were shown off at the Big Brag so we know which faces are taking the big win this year along with a song of their choosing to relax the nerves building for the upcoming events. The Boys In Blue showed their support for our teams, wishing us luck with the upcoming games and congratulating us on the games already played.

Sportsman’s Warehouse, the main sponsor of Interschools, further lifted spirits by giving out “freebies” bringing life in the early morning. Supporters sent videos to Girls’ High to show their support and let the girls know who has their back in the upcoming games. The event brought laughter along with tears to the speeches from the first teams’ captains. Excitement for Fridays’ events was seen on many faces along with a bittersweet feeling for the matrics having their last Big Brag, Prefect Hall and Interschools. The leaders held their last “Prefect hall”  and to say it was memorable is an understatement. The leaders constantly had us on our feet about what was to come with hilarious videos by the GK and the teachers. Too much of “Prefect Hall” cannot be revealed, as the saying goes “You had to be there”. I am sure many matrics were left with a heavy heart, but a heavy heart is a heart filled with memories and love. This “half-day” lifted everyone's spirits and got the “Gees” high for Interschools 2023.

Kom-kom, kom staan nader. Laat ons bietjie hokkie praat!

Kom-kom, kom staan nader. Laat ons bietjie hokkie praat! Sjoe! Ek is opgewonde oor die o.18 A hokkiewedstryd. Dit is ‘n geval van “we see your one Astro and we raise you two.”

Interview with Kyla Dames, the first team netball captain:

Interview with Kyla Dames, the first team netball captain:  by Karla Joubert Some describe her as the best player they have seen in a long time. Others say she plays effortlessly and it is as if she simply plucks the ball out of the air. Where others rush she simply moves with time distributing the ball to all her teammates. She is of course Kyla Dames.  We asked Kyla some questions that we are sure our readers are burning to know, as well as offering some of her advice and expectations for what lies ahead regarding the upcoming interschools game.  Karla : What role do you play as captain? Kyla : I don't feel as if I play a specific role. I rather offer support to my team and try to bring out the best in them.  Karla : What makes netball such a special sport to you ? Kyla : Netball is very special. The sport itself is really amazing and a good netball game is definitely one of the best games to watch. Netbal allowed me to meet so many people and form some of m...

Ode to our Matrics of '23 - The Final Countdown

Ode to our Matrics of '23 - The Final Countdown   by Hannah Malan As the Matrics are approaching the final countdown of their high school years, they are grabbing the bull by the horns by taking every opportunity that comes their way. A group of friends created a netball team on the first of August to play Interschools on the fourth of August. Most of the team had not played netball since primary school and joined the team for the fun of it. They asked one of their friends, who unfortunately cannot play netball anymore, to coach their last-minute team. Zemke Lombard coached one practice before the team was ready to play. The team played with enthusiasm and passion a week after they were formed. They achieved a surprisingly near loss against the Paarl Gymnasium u.19D team. There are many Matrics who partook in both netball and hockey this year to experience the full Interschools feeling for the last time. The countdown on their final year of high school keeps ticking yet they are fi...
